"The last ..." Laura thinks back. And back, and back. She's not necessarily
trying to deny that it happened, but breach memories are fuzzy at best, and
her voice is a little quieter. She's missed some time here and there. Now
this is more about trying to figure out what the hell Kahl's talking about
and piece the facts together. "I got sent home after the last breach that I
remember. For a while."
But this was before, so... No, Mystique probably wasn't even on
board yet. "I promise you, I didn't kill him on purpose. I don't do that."
Laura doesn't have the energy to argue this point. Not now. Not after
everything else that she's just been through, with her inmate and her job
and trying to keep the ship in order when it seems like only a handful of
other people are interested in doing that.
She breathes in deep and uncrosses her arms. "I need you to go."
It's not that he doesn't believe it. It's not even that he doesn't care; he cares a little bit. It's that he doesn't care enough for it to excuse her from retaliation.

It does sound reasonable, at least according to some kind of internal logic, but there's just one problem: Laura has no idea what he's talking about.

But it doesn't mean someone who looks like her didn't. Floods and breaches happen all the time. And, for that matter, so does Mystique. Hm.
She shifts her weight to her other foot and folds her arms in front of her chest. "When did this happen? How?"
